Traditional forms of art are something I was never drawn to as a child. This obsession with art has come only within the past few years. After living in Ottawa for nearly 7 years I finally went to the National Art Gallery, and I fell in love with the ability to connect through art. I was able to connect with Artists that are long past like Klimt, Dali, Bacon, Thompson, and many more through their vision of the world and how they portrayed that on the canvas, in a way that I had not been able to truly appreciate. After that first visit, I became much more connected to the oil paintings and drawings that my Granda Peter Johnston had made while he was here. Growing up I was always able to appreciate the wooden toys he made for us, but now as an adult, I get that same childish smile on my face when I am in the presence of his Artwork. I hope to give back even a small portion of this energy and love back through my artwork.
